Writing Love That Hurts: My Process for Emotional Torture

Want to know how I write scenes that wreck you?

  1. Make the reader fall in love

  2. Rip it away

  3. Whisper “maybe”

  4. Delay the relief until it physically hurts

The key is tension. Draw it out. Make readers hope—then twist the knife.

I don’t write breakups to be cruel. I write them because sometimes we have to break to heal.

Here’s a teaser from my current WIP:

“You said it was always me. But you still left.”

Yep. That’s the kind of pain I’m here for.

Writers: how do you build your heartbreak?

Readers: what makes angst work for you?
